Le Petit Prince. Et Le Renard. by SandOfSahara Le Petit Prince. Et Le Renard. by SandOfSahara
I love le petit prince. I think that the most beautiful part of the book is the episode of the fox.. It used to make me cry when i read this.

"I am looking for friends.
What does that mean---tame?"

"It is an act too often neglected,"
said the fox.
"It means to establish ties."

"To establish ties?"

"Just that," said the fox.
"to me, you are still nothing more than
a little boy who is just like
a hundred thousand other little boys.
And I have no need of you.
And you, on your part, have no need of me.
To you I am nothing more
than a fox like a hundred thousand other foxes.
But if you tame me, then we shall need each other.
To me, you will be unique in all the world.
To you, I shall be unique in all the world. . ."

[...]

"But if you tame me,
it will be as if the sun came to shine on my life.
I shall know the sound of a step that will be
different from all the others.
Other steps send me hurrying back
underneath the ground.
Yours will call me, like music out of my burrow.
And then look:
you see the grain-fields down yonder?
I do not eat bread.
Wheat is of no use to me.
The wheat fields have nothing to say to me.
And that is sad.
But you have hair that is the color of gold.
Think how wonderful that will be
when you have tamed me!
The grain, which is also golden,
will bring me back the thought of you.
And I shall love to listen
to the wind in the wheat. . ."

The fox gazed at the little prince,
for a long time.
"Please---tame me!" he said.

[...]

So the little prince tamed the fox.
And when the hour of his departure drew near---

"Ah," said the fox, "I shall cry."

"It is your own fault," said the little prince.
"I never wished you any sort of harm;
but you wanted me to tame you. . ."

"Yes that is so", said the fox.

"But now you are going to cry!"
said the little prince.

"Yes that is so" said the fox.

"Then it has done you no good at all!"

"It has done me good," said the fox,
"because of the color of the wheat fields."

___________
I used markers to do this.

Looking at this image and reading the selection in the description makes me want to cry. It's just so poetic and touching.

I don't know if there's a story that means as much or is as beautiful as this one. Antoine de Saint-Exupery was absolutely brilliant.

Le Petit Prince is a wonderful story, and I love how you depicted the scene with the fox. It is beautiful, especially the rich olors and how you incorporated the French from the story into the piece.

this is beautiful. <3 the fox is one of my favorite scenes in the book. it's sad, but it's heart-warming too. that entire book is just dripping with meaning and symbolism. impressive, for what's considered a children's story.

"tu seras pour moi unique au monde. je serai pour toi unique toi unique au monde..."

This is beautiful. Though my definite favourite words spoken by the fox are the "and everyday at this time I'll think of you, and everyday at this time you'll tink of me" (that is part of a goodbye monolauge I can't seem to find in every version of the book) and when I look at this, I see that, it's a clear illastration to me of what the fox means, and that's beautiful.

I also love your color choices of backrounds, especialy the little princes', because I feel that it shows the gold that the fox will remember and the red, that is the princes' rose. It truly does look like a page from the book. :)

Comments like your really makes me feel proud of my work.
I think that the part of the book you're talking about it's:

"It would have been better to come back at the same hour," said the fox. "If, for example, you come at four o'clock in the afternoon, then at three o'clock I shall begin to be happy. I shall feel happier and happier as the hour advances. At four o'clock, I shall already be worrying and jumping about. I shall show you how happy I am! But if you come at just any time, I shall never know at what hour my heart is to be ready to greet you . . . One must observe the proper rites . . ."

Accualy, that's not the part of the book I mean. (however, i've only ever found it in one translation of it, my copy does not have it) I found the chapter seperate and translated differently and it was from the part the fox says

"...Men have for gotten what is important in life cannot be observed by the eye. Only what we feel in our hearts is what lasts, whats real. By taming me you have made this time special to me, on what might ordinarily be just another day and you just another human. You are now special to me the way your rose is special to you. No one can undertand this because out of all humans you are the only one that I have befreinded, the only one I will remember. So everyday at this time, you will think of me and everyday at this time I will think of you. Never let anyone tell you your rose is ordinary for she has tamed you and only you are special to her and thus, she is unique in your heart."

Though I may have messed up a few words because that was from memory; that was the first encounter I hever had of the little prince; I was researching foxes in folktales and loved this fox so much as to read the more conventional translations, for I beleive this translation is errored and that is part of why I love it. And part of why I love your drawing, it isn't the same style of the original little prince drawings, but it's what somebody, you, understood of it.
